8th Kyiv Half Marathon has been traditionally held with the support of Sport Life

On April 22 an annual Kyiv half marathon — 8th Nova Poshta Kyiv Half Marathon was held in the Ukrainian capital. 11 000 participants from 52 countries of the world toed the starting line. And about 25 000 spectators filled the city streets to support the runners. The route was traditional and usual: run around along Dnipro, and sportsman’s start and finish was held at Kontraktova square. 

This event was historic for Ukraine — IAAF Bronze Label race (honour of the International Association of Athletics Federations) was held for the first time at the territory of our country. Such status ensures the competition to be held at the highest level meeting the international standards of quality, safety and services. And most importantly — not only the Ukrainian representatives of the running elite, but international started the race in Ukraine for the first time. Only Riga and Minsk could be also proud of the events of such level in the post-Soviet space. The representative of Ethiopia Anbesa among the men and the Ukrainian Viktoria Kaliuzhna among the women gained the victory with record results.

“This year we have gathered almost 11 000 participants from 52 countries of the world. This is a record number of participants for all the time of the event. The prize fund has made 242 300 hryvnias this year, that is by 100 000 hryvnias more than last year. The running movement is developing in our country — and running becomes a catalyst of a healthy lifestyle, fitness and sport in general” , — said Dmytro Chernitskiy, general manager of Run Ukraine

77-year-old Ukrainian Oleh Shetankov has become the oldest participant of Kyiv Half Marathon among the men with the result 2:00 and 36 minutes. Participation of such sportsmen only proves there is no age limit for running. 

“A number of people doing sport, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is constantly growing, and this is good news for us, as the largest national fitness network. As movement is life. People move, do sport. We also try to develop, develop our network and support the Ukrainian sport.
